Over 1700 members of Barnet staff and partners have now moved to Colindale, making it their principal working base. As part of your team principles creation you should be considering how you make the reduced available desk space at our new Colindale building. And new tools and technology such as Microsoft Teams and office 365 should make it possible to stay connected and work as normal at any locations that have a good wi-fi connection.
Additional locations have now also been agreed throughout the Borough where staff can work, particularly for frontline staff, that may need a place to ‘touch down’ in between meetings or visits. Touchdown locations will have a limited number of hot desks as well as access to the corporate network and printing. They have been agreed at the following locations:
Hendon Town Hall: There are 10 spaces around the project desk outside the Business Centre on the first floor of the Town Hall and a limited number of desks within the Business Centre. The Business Centre will be reserved for use by Governance Officers and Chief Officers ahead of committee meetings.
Independent Living Centre: There are six hot desk available, please check in with Barnet and Southgate College reception for access.
As well as these locations there is a range of working space available in Colindale for staff ‘dropping in’ or needing to touch down for a period of time including the fourth floor collaboration area and desk space on each floor.
Kyocera MFD printers (the same type of printers as the Colindale office) have also now be rolled out at locations across the borough where you can print securely. You can find a map of the locations here.
Safe, secure and effective remote working: Whether you are working from a café, a Barnet office or at home make sure that you are keeping your data safe, be aware of having confidential conversations in public spaces and if you work with sensitive data or information request a privacy screen from your manager and use it whenever you are working away from your ‘home’ area. Wherever you work and whatever your role, if you are away from your laptop at any time it should always be locked.
Making the most of technology: You’ll find handy guides and information on the waywe.work site under technology. If you are having problems working remotely why not drop in to an IT surgery or use the IT Service Desk self-service portal for reporting issues or technical problems.
